Lessons learned at 80

I am not sure how I came across this address on Lessons Learned in His First 80 Years by Byron Wien, who at 88 is still Vice-Chair of the investment firm Blackstone. Though I was really struck by these 20 short reflections, many of which we all know – such as get enough sleep – but others we may have not considered – such as the hard way is always the right way. My personal favourite:

“Every year try doing something you have never done before that is totally out of your comfort zone.  It could be running a marathon, attending a conference that interests you on an off-beat subject that will be populated by people very different from your usual circle of associates and friends or traveling to an obscure destination alone.  This will add to the essential process of self-discovery.”

Which for me is writing these weekly posts!

About thesocialenterprise

The Social Enterprise was established in 2007 by David Russell to develop creative and innovative approaches for individuals and organisations that seek to deliver social value. We work with charities and businesses, and our starting point on any project is to determine how we will generate a return on investment in our services – whether through a more effective working approach or delivering greater social impact.
